Location/Directions

Our land is on a well-maintained gravel road, with very little traffic and a small number of other houses, just outside the hamlet of East Chatham in the township of Canaan, New York.  Located in Columbia County, we are 35 minutes from Albany and Hudson, minutes from the Berkshires of Massachusetts, and 2.5 hours from both Boston and New York City.  We are 10 minutes from our local Quaker Meeting in Old Chatham as well as the Powell House Conference Center of New York Yearly Meeting (NYYM).

Northern Columbia County is a mix of rural and agricultural land and small towns and hamlets.  Some residents still work the land, some commute to Albany, some work from home or online.  Many people weekend here from NYC or Boston.  Many artists live and work here.  It's common to meet people who do a variety of things for pay, or have a background in a field far different from their current occupation/passion.  Our nearest town, Chatham, has several bakeries, two health-food stores, two bookstores, a movie theater, a cheese store, a pie store, a number of pubs and restaurants, and way too many gas stations.

Our address:

Directions on NYS Route 295 going east:

East of Chatham you will cross over a highway (Route 90) and you'll come into the village of East Chatham. About 1/2 mile after the bridge over the highway you come to Bradley's Crossing Rd., which goes off at an angle to your left. If you leave the houses of East Chatham behind and pass the closed restaurant, you've missed the turn.

Directions on NYS Route 295 going west:

Pass through the town of Canaan's blinking traffic light, and after a few miles you will see the closed restaurant on your right. You are now in East Chatham.  Shortly after the restaurant take a very sharp right onto Bradley's Crossing Rd. A line of pine trees obscures the road sign until the last minute. You've missed our road if you come to the middle of East Chatham, where there is East Chatham Wine and Liquor, and eventually a post office and self storage.

Directions from Bradley’s Crossing Road at 295 (i.e. either going east or west):

Bear left at the fork/curve early on where the road turns to go over the railroad tracks and head up the hill. We are 1 mile up Bradley's Crossing Rd.: the community farmhouse, #235 Bradley's Crossing Road, is an orange/peach-colored house, close to the road on the left-hand side.  Please park in the larger lot to the right (east) of the road, below the yellow house, unless you have received other instructions.
